Derrick Schommer of Everyday Drinkers has created an absinthe review tasting and
HOWTO video.
A few good things about the clip: he tries to clear up thujone myths and fire rituals, has some solid information, and he has a good sense of humour regarding his French pronunciations. (Hell, I’m not much better!
)
Also, he mentions Wormwood Society and The Absinthe Review Network.
Overall, I think he’s done a pretty good job. What do you think?
Derrick is an incredibly cool guy, and I think he is learning very quickly (Drink Hacker could learn from his speedy learning). He really seems to be genuinely intrigued, I don’t think absinthe is a fleeting interest for him.
I challenged him on XBOX Live too, but we don’t have any of the same games…bah!;)
Oh, and the shout out was very cool of him. I gotta shoot him a virtual high-five through Facebook or something soon.
Indeed, I think the video showed he was willing to give it a proper taste with some proper research. Nice to see!
Thanks for the shout outs! I’m still learning my way around Absinthe. I’ve taken time to sit down with each brand and use them to help me “find tastes” in the absinthe. What does one taste like to the other, what are some of the tastes attributed to the spirit, etc.
I’ve read as much information as I could find and hope I did the job of a good “substitute teacher” – the one that had to learn quick before giving a lesson. Unfortunately, I’m not an expert yet but I’ll get there eventually. I’ve got advantages most folks don’t have: I have access to many great importers, brand folks and PR folks to help get me sample liquids at my doorstep. This means I can taste a wide variety of brands and expand my palate as I go.
I’ll get there!
Good video, I enjoyed watching it. Although “tobacco” was spelled wrong in his little pop-up information bar on the bottom of the screen
Yes, spelling is weak with me
